First Stomach Flu

Not a happy milestone. Last weekend we all came down with a stomach flu that lingered most of the week. This was the first time Walter had been sick other than the 2 colds he's had in his life. We didn't have fevers so I wasn't worried, it was just miserable for everyone.

We finally got to go see Mom Mom and Pop Pop again last night. Mom Mom has been out of work with her back so with them being short handed we haven't been going to the restaurant even when we were feeling better.

I have given Walter his binky back. Not because he demanded it or was extremely fussy without it or anything like that.. but because he started putting his fingers in his mouth instead and I am afraid this is how he got sick. His little hands touch everything everywhere and as hard as I try to keep them clean and sanitized you know germs will still get through. The binky is much cleaner since it doesn't touch everything and gets washed if it's dropped. So for now he has the binky again.. and I have to admit he sleeps a lot better with it. He's restless without it.

The Little Chef

We had pictures of Walter done at Sears yesterday for Valentines Day. He took a little while to get warmed up but when we took his clothes off and brought out the food props he was definitely in his element! We got a few really great chef pictures which are perfect for the family pizza restaurant! I was so surprised he kept the chef hat on but he was so into it that he didn't touch it even once. This is the second time we've had him in the chef props at Sears and both times I've totally loved the pictures. It will be sad when he outgrows these props. We may have to just get our own props since he loves playing chef so much!

Making Cheesesticks

Walter's new thing at Jerry's Pizza is to "dock" dough. The thing in his hand is the docker. The little prongs press into the dough and make sure your pizza or breadsticks don't have big bubbles. Well, any dough that Walter can get a hold of definitely doesn't have ANY bubbles. On Superbowl Sunday Wendy helped him make some cheesesticks... they are like a pizza with no crust and no red sauce.. you flatten the dough and then cheese and butter go on top. They are yummy and Walter made some great ones. most people like to use a side of red sauce to dip but I don't really like red sauce. I thought they were perfect without.

Walter got to make a pizza on Tuesday because he insisted on docking some more dough. We might have to get a docker for home.. he's so obsessed with docking!

Potty Training

So far we haven't pushed the issue with Walter. We did get him a little potty of his own just after Christmas but he really didn't like it too much...BUT today, tonight... just a few minutes ago Wendy put him on it and ::drum roll please:: HE POOPED IN THE POTTY!

Wow... I never thought I'd be so excited about poop. Can you tell I live in Mommy-land? I'm just so excited of the prospect of NOT changing stinky's anymore... plus I'm super proud of how smart Walter is.

I still think he's growing up too fast....but going potty is fine with me.

Giving Up The Binky!

Today is Day 3 of the no binky trend. Walter was obsessed with binkies.. the more the better. Sometimes he would have one in each hand and one in his mouth and still want another one if he saw it.

Three nights ago he dropped his binky behind the bed when I was trying to get him to sleep. I was too exhausted to get up and get him a fresh one so I tried getting him to sleep without it. To my amazement it worked! So when we got up the next day we did a binky round up. Every time I thought I had them all put away he would find another one and put it in his mouth. I would have to wait for him to put it down to put it in the jar with the others. When I counted we had 24 binkies in the jar but I've found others since then! I can't believe how many he has. Today I found another one under the sofa but luckily Walter didn't see it so I got it put up before it caused a problem.

So for now it is out of sight, out of mind for the binkies. He's really surprising me at how well he's doing. It takes a little longer to get him to sleep but I can deal with that. I just don't know if I can deal with my little man growing up so fast though!

On Friday night we went to the pizza place that my family owns to visit Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop. They always love it when we come up there and so we try to go as often as we can which is usually several times a week. They visit us on Monday and Tuesday nights for our "family nights". We've been getting together on Mondays and Tuesdays for years now and I think it's especially fun now that Walter is here. He definitely knows who his family is and that they love him.

Walter gets to socialize at the pizza place a lot although he is still a little shy before he gets to know you. Bridget just started working there and the first time he saw her he stopped in his tracks and then came back to hide behind my legs. He's seen her a few times now so he's warming up to her. He even shared his jelly beans with her Friday night.

One of Walter's favorite things to do when he's at the pizza place is to clean. He loves to help sweep and mop the floor and wipe down counters. He loves having little jobs to do and takes them very seriously. Friday night he helped stock pizza boxes and then helped Mom-Mom scrub the counters. We always have a good time watching him work.

Yesterday Walter and I went to the park that is right around the corner from our house. They just rebuilt the park and it is awesome now so we are so excited about warmer weather coming up. Yesterday was a really nice day. The sky was so blue and it was very warm for a January day. We had a great time. We took his big blue ball with us but I think Walter had more fun with the mulch and the sand. It was his first time in a sandbox and he thought it was so awesome! I was so happy he didn't try to eat the sand. He did try to bury himself though! He did not want to get out of the sandbox, even when it was time to go home. When I finally did get him out of the sandbox we went home and changed his clothes. Sand poured out of his shoes and pockets - it was everywhere! He had fun though, so it was worth it. Wendy said she wouldn't have let him pile sand on top of himself like that but I say he's a kid so he's allowed to have fun. He had a great nap in the afternoon. He was totally worn out from playing. We really are going to need to go to the park more often!
